ELDERBERRY ELIXIR RECIPE

to protect your good cells from coronavirus and other nasty invaders

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 parts dried elderberry

  • 2 parts raw honey

  • 1 part applejack (or another 80 proof or higher liquor)

TOOLS:

  • double boiler (I just put a little pot on a big pot)

  • jar with tight fitting lid

INSTRUCTIONS:

Put your dried elderberries into the small pot and cover with the honey. Heat with a double boiler, on the lowest heat possible for about one hour. If you heat above 95 degrees, you may kill the honey’s natural enzymes and you don’t wanna do that if possible. When done warming, take off the heat source, pour all into a jar. Stir. Taste. Pour in the liquor. Stir. Taste.

Now, you’re gonna let this brew for at least 6 weeks before you strain it. However! You may also begin to use it immediately. That’s the nice thing about this recipe. The medicine gets stronger with time, but it is good the first day.

When you want to take the medicine, just strain off the amount you want and then put the strained berries back into the jar to keep brewin. I like to have it with some sparklin water. It make a real fine medicinal treat, even okay for a pregnant lady to take.*

Optional: add fresh or dried ginger, cloves, cardamon, star anise, cinnamon sticks (I usually keep medicine simple, but these additions are actually quite nice)

Alcohol-free Options: Just don’t put the liquor in at the end! I’m not sure how long that will keep because the alcohol is of course a strong preservative. But honey is a great preservative as well. You can also make a more traditional syrup by simmering the elderberries in water:

Fill your jar half with the dried berry. Fill to the top with boiling water. Then pour all that into a pot and cook it down by half. Let this sit a few hours. Strain well. Add about as much honey as you have liquid. I usually do a bit less. Stir. Taste. Should store 2-3 months if kept in fridge. Outside the fridge, hard to say.

Pure Tincture:

If you have the time to let ‘er brew and want a stronger medicine, make a simple tincture. Fill the jar 1/2 full with the dried berry and then fill jar with 80 proof or higher liquor. Let sit at least 6 weeks. It’s good to always have this tincture on hand.

Elder’s Medicine:

Elder works to protect cells from nasty invaders (like a coronavirus, cold, or other flu virus). I take about a tablespoon of the elixir, a few times a day, when my kid or my husband (or the whole world!) is sick with a virus. I wouldn’t take it for more than a month though. Good to give your body a rest from any medicine, potent or not.

The FDA does not approve these thoughts nor this recipe. (But they do approve many a thing that I would highly suggest you do not put in your body.) See below for more.

Blessins, friends.
